Description:
New York: Venus Over Manhattan, 2014. (1st Edition). Softcover. Very good/very good. [104p.] Top corner of cover and about half the pages are lightly creased (or dented). Published on the occasion of an exhibition of works in ink, watercolor, oil, and gouache held April 3 - May 17, 2014. For those around the Los Angeles punk scene of the 1970s and 1980s, Pettibon's distinctive flyers promoting gigs for South Bay and Harbor Area bands like the Minutemen and his brother's band, Black Flag, were ubiquitous. Considered a biting political critic, albeit tempered with a touch of nostalgia and humor, his works are in the permanent collections of Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Tate Gallery in London. Color photographs. (11"x8-1/2")

This book is in good condition. There is some wear on the front, back, spine, edges and corner of the cover. There is some dog-earring on the right corner pages of the book. The pages are white, crisp and clear of any markings. "This is a history of the visual arts produced in the geographical area that now constitutes the United States. Such a book is difficult to title. A History of United States Art sounds awkward and logically might even be construed to exclude the arts of the colonial period. Thus, with apologies to our northern and southern neighbors, I use the title A History of American Art, knowing full well that the terms America and the United States are not synonymous...." - Preface from A History of American Art
