A likely second printing of Civil War historian Clarence Edward Macartney's account of Union naval operations under President Lincoln during that conflict. Focusing on the admirals who led these forces, the author describes the tactics and strategies employed. With black & white photographic portraits and several maps & drawings; foreword by George Fielding Eliot. --- In full blue cloth-covered boards with spine titling and decorations in gilt. Volume wrapped in navy & gold dust jacket with montage of naval guns & flags to cover. --- With prior owner's bookplate affixed to front free endpaper, another owner's signature to flyleaf dated Spring, 1984. Roughly price-clipped dust jacket with a little rubbing & light chafing to edges, else bright, complete, and wrapped in removable archival mylar protector (which also is lightly rubbed). ; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; xiii, [3], 335 pages .
