National Velvet is one of the best books I read as a child and many years later,as an adult!!! One of my favorite movies is National Velvet with Elizabeth Taylor as Velvet Brown, the young rider, and Mickey Rooney as a retired jockey, who became The Piebald's (Pie)trainer!!This is a wonderful story about a young girl's impossible dream and her determination to make it come true!!!Also, the reader gets a glimpse of life in the English countryside during the 1930's!I am so happy that the copy I purchased from Bibli.com was published in 1935 and is in great condition!!!P.S.The drawings in the book were drawn by the author's (Enid Bagnold)own daughter,Laurian, who was 13!!
