Philadelphia: George Maclean & Co, 1874. Hardcover. Good. First edition. Brown cloth decorated in black and gilt, blind embossing on rear board. Nearly four hundred illustrations by Arthur B. Frost, Fred. B. Schell, Wm. L. Sheppard and Ed. B. Bensell. Page 78 illustrated plate taped in, gutter cracked, owner's gift inscription "Sophie [Dupont May] from Aunt Rebe, Dec. 2, 1939", and "M.H. Forrest" both penned on frontispiece recto, good only with extremities worn and spine ends taped, without dustwrapper if issued. Author's first book and the first book to be illustrated by Arthur B. Frost.
