Slight cracking to hinges, with exposed netting, pages remain attached. Pages have light tanning and foxing throughout. Previous owner's inscriptions to front pastedown and endpaper. Water staining to some pages, text remains unaffected. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with bumping and slight fraying to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Light tanning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Staining overall.

The Sign of the Four (1890) (also called The Sign of Four) was the second novel featuring Sherlock Holmes written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Doyle wrote four novels and 56 stories starring the fictional detective.
