Description:
Nattali and Bond. London. No Date.,Circa 1850. THREE VOLUMES. Tall 8vo (10.2 x 6.6 inches). Text and plates taken from the Ninth edition. Complete set of this famous trilogy, with 80 fine hand-coloured, full page, aquatint plates, the colouring still strong and bright, by Thomas Rowlandson. Some minor spots of foxing to a few leaves in each volume but generally clean and bright copies in the scarce original publisher's brown cloth bindings, with gilt lettering and decoration on spines. Decorative blind stamped panels on boards. Original yellow coated endpapers. Previous owners bookplates to front paste downe endpapers. Some rubbing to top and tail of spines and fore-edges, and a couple of the hinges with neatly repaired splits (about 1.5 inches) but generally these are very good examples. Slight uniform fading to spines but overall a very attractive set of this classic work with Rowlandson's humourous plates. Uncommon in the publishers original decorative cloth bindings.:

First Edition; Limited Edition: Number 69 of 660 copies, numbered and signed by Luigi Serafini. The book condition, including all die-cuts and plates is as new. For defects and box & dust jacket details see the end of this listing. The price reflects a deep discount on this rare item and a rare opportunity to own a book of this quality from renowned Italian artist Luigi Serafini.
The artist's tribute to Jules Renard's 1959 Histoires Naturelles is a whimsical book which reflect a botanical construction of die-cut and coloured leaves forming a forest of enchanted trees and fantastical plants. The tome constitutes Serafini's herbarium of imaginary plants. The book was published to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of Jules Renard's life. In traditional Serafini style, the story, and the flow of die cuts and plates, and text, letter pressed on the highest quality heavy paper, follows no rational order, despite being grouped into sections, so interpretation is left to the imagination of the reader. Renard's text serves only to inspire your imagination to run free and to make free association between French politics, ecological conservation, and the alienation of human species.
With all of Serafini's work - it is precisely this enigmatic quality which makes his books so popular. As with the CODEX, a later reprint was made available at modest price. This, however, is the original limited series and was obtained from FMR (Franco Maria Ricci) in Parma, Italy. It has had only a single owner who has maintained it in archive. It is a true work of art, in every aspect, from the quality of the canvas to the quality of the plates.
The pages are of the highest quality paper, the lyrical text, in Italian, is from Renard's original book. This fascinating book contains 20 pockets that contain the beautifully imagined herbarium leaves. At 262 pages with pockets and inserts, Storie Naturali is a limited edition of 660 copies numbered and signed by the artist.
The book is as new. The original box/dust cover has been cut by the publisher's distribution for exposition. It has been taped to the back cover as indicated in the photographs. For this reason, the dust jacket condition is listed as poor while the book remains of as new quality: very fine.

Description:
Ernest Nister. London. No date. 1906. FIRST EDITION. 4to. (11.2 x 9.2 inches). An unusual book featuring 26 pp of verse, printed on one side of thick paper, each illustrated with full colour chromolithographs of anthropomorphised knives, pots and pans, tea kettles, clothes pegs, teaspoons, etc, in fact pretty much anything that you might find in an early twentieth century kitchen. Original thick card boards with full colour illustrations and lettering to the front panel, the rear plain red. Red cloth spine. There is some rubbing to the edges of the boards but overall this is a lovely, near fine copy of this scarce edition. J & F. Hunt- Peeps into Nisterland. Italia: n.p., 1835. Very Good. 19 cm; 20 pages (three blank), including 7 full-page illustrations with captions. Text and illustrations lithographed throughout. Bound in (later?) plain wraps. Not in Melzi. No copies located. Apparently unrecorded booklet with text and illustrations produced completely in lithograph. The text reproduces an italic calligraphy that must have been lettered in reverse on stone, or written out on transfer paper before being applied to the lithographic stone. The narrative concerns a lady who is handily juggling simultaneous affairs with a young man and with the young man's father.
