London: W. Faden, 1815. Hardcover. Good. xv, 640, lxxxvi p. 25 cm. Frontispiece portrait and 17 other illustrations, including 9 scenic plates, 4 folding maps, 2 non-folding maps, and two tables. Full tree leather. Corners and edges worn with a few scuffs to boards. Former owner's label on front pastedown. Some foxing. Tape repair to River du Loup fold-out map.
Lt.-Col. Joseph Bouchette (1774 1841) was Surveyor-General of British North America. This book, written immediately after the War of 1812, contains the sum knowledge of what was known about the Canadas at that time. Of greatest interest are the maps, which include the Town of William Henry, Plan of the Townships on the Ottawa River, Plan of the Route from Halifax to the River du Loup on the St. Lawrence, Kingston Channels, York Harbour, and Oswego Harbour.
