About This Item

Toronto: Anansi, 1991. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. 16mo - over 5¾ - 6¾" tall. Red paper boards. 121 pp. Fine. Unsupported Assertions is Hugh Hood's third book of essays, following The Governor's Bridge Is Closed (1973) and Trusting the Tale (1973). This wonderful collection shows Hugh Hood to be a virtuoso writer of belles lettres, as well as of novels and short stories. His preoccupation as a novelist with the nature of physical and moral perception on view particularly in the famed "New Age" series, carries into these twelve previously unpublished essays written over the course of the year 1990, notably in "Memory Games, or How to Bring It All Back," "What is the Difference Between Thinking and Feeling?" and "Televisic, Dramatic, Cinematic.
