London, UK: Collins, 1950. 1st Edition 1st Impression. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. First edition, first impression. xv, 254pp, with 52 colour photographs, 29 photographs in black and white, 20 maps and 15 diagrams in text. In green cloth boards with gilt titles on spine. 8vo. Cloth is faded at edges, gently rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends. Spotted on endpapers, gift inscription on front paste down, previous owner's name on front free endpaper, which also has some pencil notes regarding the edition of the volume, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust jacket, not price clipped, browned, lightly rubbed and chipped at edges with minor loss at spine head. Dust jacket now protected in a Brodart-style protective wrapper fitted without the use of tape or adhesives. No. 16 in Collins' New Naturalist series.
