Zane Grey's Tex Thorne Comes Out Of the West

The creative genius behind Tex Thorne without doubt was Zane Grey. Yet when first offered the chance to write for the comics he turned it down as beneath him. But a cooler head prevailed, his wife, Dolly, who ran the day to day operations of their publishing business, and knew what their financial situation was because of ZG's spending and the Great Depression which had limited their income because the magazines would not pay the price they were asking for ZG's serials, and the money from book royalties was but a mere trickle of what it had once been. They needed money. And, as to how much of this comic strip ZG actually wrote is up to debate; but had the financial atmosphere been different I am sure ZG would have taken this character and written a long novel about him and his adventures. Tex Thorne is that kind of personality who you would like to read more about. Sorry it didn't happen. But we have this one book.
