Marked "Scène IX les mêmes: puis les trois emissaires du Sultan - puis Croquendot ..." Notated in black and red ink with some markings in blue crayon. Unsigned. Slightly worn; creased at central fold. La femme à barbe, in two acts to a libretto by A. de la Tourrasse, was first performed at Versailles on 2 June 1938. Delvincourt, a French composer, was appointed director of the Versailles Conservatory in 1931 and of the Paris Conservatoire in 1941, a position he held until his death in 1954; he received the Prix de Rome in 1913 for his cantata Faust et Helene. Over 1 lb. of various music scores, i.e. Big Band arrangements, some printed and others handwritten and SIGNED by Big Band Leader JAN SAVITT. In varying condition. Some items signed in fountain pen, others in pencil. Many musical notations in Savitt's hand added to the scores. I have no way of knowing if any of these are complete scores, so it's probably best to consider all of the titles as fragments. Titles are: "Park Avenue Fantasy", "Negro Spirituals: Go Down Moses - Swing Low, Sweet Chariot", "Valse" (Brahms), and "Paganini"..

Spine with gilt ruled lines, floral design and lettering. Front board with ruled panels and floral designs, all in gilt Single gilt ruled border to the rear board and board edges. Gilt inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Armorial bookplate of noted author of books on folklore and topography, Sir George Laurence Gomme (1853 - 1916) on the front pastedown. Some offsetting to the endpapers from the leather turn-ins. A little rubbing to the extremities and the spine faded to an attractive brown but overall still a lovely copy of this scarce work in a fine quality binding. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a master bookbinder.

1788 HANDEL Composer Dettingen Te Deum Classical Music Austrian Succession WAR

Alongside Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frederic Handel was one of the two greatest Baroque music composers. Best known for his 'Messiah', Handel was responsible for hundreds of pieces of music, many of which were written with liturgical texts. Handel's 1743 masterpiece 'Dettingen Te Deum' was written in honor of the British victory at Dettingen in the War of Austrian Succession.
Handel, who had become proud of his English home, wrote this setting of 'Te Deum'
for the day King George II appointed a day of celebration in honor of the victory. Like many of Handel's works, it features chorus, full orchestra, and solos.
This rare edition was printed in 1788 by Arnold according to the "STC of Music Printed Before 1825".
