This Baker Bookhouse 2nd printing (April 1977), was reproduced from the edition issued in Edinburg in 1873. It is part of the Baker Religious Heritage Library and is considered a classic.One website states this about Alexander's work: "The work before us exhibits no lack of accurate scholarship. It was not designed to be of a controversial, doctrinal, or devotional character, but to be a literal translation of the Psalter, with brief explanatory comments. Its marked feature is its rigid adherence to the form of expression in the original, and to the Hebrew tenses; preserving thus the spirit and strength of that Oriental language.
