Description:
(London): Eyre Methuen, 1978. Fine in fine jacket.. Beautiful first UK and first hardcover edition of Dick's tenth novel, originally published in 1956 as half of an Ace Double. THE MAN WHO JAPED is a satire on a repressive and puritannical future totalitarian society, reflecting some dire trends from the decade of its composition. The titular protagonist is a jokester who steals the bronzed thermoplastic head off a statue of a Major Streiter, recalling the later statuary decapitation of Jebediah Springfield by a certain Bart Simpson; if the latter is not a deliberate allusion it is certainly a striking coincidence. Scarce. 7'' x 4.5''. Original green cloth with gilt-lettered spine. In original pictorial dust jacket by Chris Moore. 158 pages. Minor page toning. Light edgewear to boards and jacket.
