It's Mimi's first Mardi Gras, and the house is ablaze with activity and excitement, for Mimi has never been to a Mardi Gras parade before. On this one special day of the year, Mimi gets to dress up like a princess!
From her parents, Mimi learns the history of Mardi Gras and why it is celebrated in New Orleans. She learns all about Lent and Fat Tuesday and the colorful krewes such as Zulu and Rex that help make up the Mardi Gras Day celebration.
At the parade, to her delight, Mimi sees beautiful costumes, funny costumes, and many unusual masks. She even sees a tribe of Mardi Gras Indians in their exquisite beaded suits.
Sitting atop her father's shoulders, Mimi can watch as the marvelous floats roll by. With her hands outstretched to catch as much as she possibly can, Mimi is showered by the maskers on the floats with colorful plastic beads and souvenirs to remind her always of this very special day.
