Will Ferguson was born and raised in the former fur-trappingcommunity of Fort Vermillon, deep in the backwoods of northernAlberta. "Closer to the Arctic Circle than the American border." ashe likes to say. Will has lived and worked in almost every regionof Canada, from the Okanagan Valley of B.C. to the farmlands ofrural Quebec, from Saskatoon to sourthern Ontario, from Manitoba toP.E.I.

He went to South America as a volunteer with Canada World Youth, and later spent five years in Japan. He has travelled acrossnorthern China, Korea, Indonesia, and mainland Malaysia -- butthrough it all has remained stubbornly Canadian.

Will has a degree in Fine Arts (Film & Television) from YorkUniversity in Toronto, and has worked in marketing/publicity, andeven -- briefly -- as a journalist. His debut book, ahumorous look at Canadian culture entitled, "Why I HateCanadians," was a surprise bestseller that allowed him to changecareers suddenly in mid-stream. Ever since then, he has been afull-time writer, specializing in travel and Canadiana.

Will is also the author of "The Hitchhiker's Guide toJapan," a travel guide; "I Was a Teenage Katima-victim!," ahilarious memoir of his days as a cross-Canada youth volunteer;"Hokkaido Highway Blues," a travel narrative; and "Bastards& Boneheads: Canada's Glorious Leaders Past and Present," afrank and funny look at Canada's prime ministers and the history ofCanada. He is also the co-author of "The Girlfriend's Guide toHockey," a lighthearted and informative guide to Canada'sfavourite sport.Although he considers himself an "honorary Maritimer" (his family'sroots are in Cape Breton and he lived for several years in theFundy region of New Brunswick), Will recently returned to his homeprovince of Alberta. He now lives in Calgary with his wife, Terumi, and their three-year-old son, Alex.
