About This Item

(Pretoria: J. L. van Schaik, 1957). Oblong quarto; original coarse grey cloth, with red lettering to upper cover; pictorial dustwrapper; unpaginated (but pp. 64); monochrome photographs throughout. Dustwrapper somewhat edgeworn, with some loss to top edge of upper panel, and archival tape repairs to reverse side; faint foxing to endpapers. Very good condition. An evocative series of monochrome photographs of South African people and scenes, providing a glimpse of life as it was more than fifty years ago. The pictures of Cape Town's Malay Quarter and District Six are perhaps the most important. .
