Footnotes. From the publisher: "A young man makes his way in a city that tempts at every turn as he and his friends come of age at a different time in a vibrant city." From David Crow's review: "Neal Gillen's 1954 Adventures in New York is fascinating on many levels. Having known the author as a highly successful lawyer and lobbyist it would have never occurred to me that he was adrift in 1954. In his candid, funny, brutally honest book, Neal takes us through petty crimes (borrowing cars for a few hours), his first drinking episodes, his early sexual encounters, his brush with many famous Americans and his long and winding road to discovery. He is a young man that could have gone the wrong way. His family, friends, mentors and finally the U.S. Navy gave Neal purpose. Once he understood his capabilities and developed some ambition he soared to the top. This is a wonderful read about NY, about coming of age and about a young man making it big after a slow start. I couldn't put it down.". INSCRIBED / SIGNED by the AUTHOR. 1st ed? (No additional printings listed). Softcover. Near Fine condition. Illus. by NOT a library discard. vi, 296pp. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.

About About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well.
