Charleville, A. Gelly, N.d.. 1st Edition . Soft cover. .. Oblong octavo. Comprising of 24 collotype plates on 12 leaves, with facing tissue-guards. Each plate is captioned at bottom. In the original wrappers, front illustrated and with elaborate Coat of Arms, back with an additional plate not included in the book, making the total 25. Covers soiled, back rubbed at corner, front with old stamp and two shelf tickets, another stamp inside cover. In good condition, fine plates. ~ FIRST EDITION. Impressive group portraits, of particular clarity and sharpness. Collotype is one of the most accurate and attractive methods of photomechanical tonal printing processes. Highly skilled and expensive process, it cannot produce more than a limited number of impressions. It has been used for single-sheet prints and luxury portfolios, and since the 1950s has been abandoned by all except a few small specialist firms. Scarce. X-2
