About This Item
First American edition hardcover, with dust jacket, published by Doubleday, 1958. A collection of lectures, essays, short stories, poems, and other short pieces. Includes many personal pieces and opinions. The 27 stories are mostly humorous short pieces that were originally published in Punch or The New Yorker. Not published in the UK. 357 pages, 5-3/4" X 8-1/2". Cloth covered hardcover boards with the title on the spine. The spine panel has some smudge marks from use. Dust jacket is intact and is not price clipped, original price of $4.50 is printed on the top corner of the front flap. Front flap has a hand written price in black ink below the pre-printed price. Shallow chipping to the head and heel of the spine panel and some rubbing wear at the tips of the corners of the jacket. The jacket has been protected with a clear, removable cover. Former owner's name written in blue ink on the first flyleaf page, dated 1960. The list of other works by Graves has a few faint pencil check marks. But no further writing besides that name and the check marks. Not a library discard copy. Binding is tight and square. Top edge of the text block has a slight hairline of a scratch mark, about 1 inch long. Attached are some photos of the copy we have in our inventory.
