New York: Viking Press, 1942. 1st. Hardcover. Signed by the author on the half title page. Winner of the Newberry Medal in 1943 with the gold sticker on the front of the dust jacket. Bound in the publisher's original green cloth with the front cover and spine stamped in dark green. The dust jacket has a water stain, sun fading to the spine, and wear and chips to the extremities, otherwise a fine book in a very good dust jacket.
Synopsis
Adam of the Road is a novel by Elizabeth Janet Gray that won the Newbery Medal for excellence in American children's literature in 1943. Set in thirteenth-century England, the book follows the adventures of a young boy, Adam. After losing his spaniel and minstrel father, Adam embarks on a series of escapades throughout medieval England. Readers are given an accurate portrayal of medieval culture and society. The book is illustrated by Robert Lawson.
