About This Item
Chronicle Books, San Francisco undated Metal slip case & 5¾" x 11" hardcover book Book and slip case in VERY GOOD condition Thick, brown boards with silver type to front, tan spine binding, hand-written text throughout; all in color decorated metal slip case. Long believed lost, Max's 'Pilot Journal' is reproduced here exactly as he wrote it. Both a personal and historical document, it records his adventures in Casablanca, Dakar, and Algiers, as well as his famed airborne jam sessions to the US. It tells of his friendships with legendary musicians, his endless flirtations with women, and, near the end, his increasingly frequent secret trips to Havana. But most of all, it reveals the heart and mind of a fascinating man who personified the golden age of jazz.
