About This Item
London: The Fortune Press, c1930. Cloth. Very Good/Good. 7.5" by 5.5". None. A smart limited edition of this novel from French writer Joris Karl Huysmans, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Limited edition of one thousand copies of which this is number one thousand. With the vanishingly scarce original unclipped dust wrapper. The book that Oscar Wilde's protagonist Dorian Grey declared had had such an influence on him. A novel centerd on a single character named Jean des Esseintes, who is an eccentric, reclusive, ailing aesthete. He loathes nineteenth-century bourgeois society and tries to retreat into an ideal artistic world of his own creation. Written by Charles-Marie-Georges Huysmans, a French novelist and art critic who published his works as Joris-Karl Huysmans. In the original black cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor wear to the extremities and light marks to the boards. Original unclipped dust wrapper is sound with light wear and chipping to the extremities. Sunning to the spine and panel edges. The odd small closed tear and the odd small mark to the panels. A 1" closed tear to the rear panel. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot. Light age toning to the endpapers. Very Good
