About This Item
First printing. Book has no wear to speak of. Unclipped DJ has very light creasing to edges. Signed by Smith and 2 veterans on the half title page. The signatures are those of: Dave Davis of 222 (Spitfire) Squadron; John Gill rigger, of 74 Squadron. This authorised biography tells the story of an exceptional and fascinating man who joined the RAF in 1937 and was in the thick of the action right from the start of the war, serving with great distinction and bravery over France and Dunkirk in May and June of 1940. He later helped to defend London and the south east during the Battle of Britain. He went on to command a flight in 602 Squadron, to lecture in America and to command at both Biggin Hill and later in France. After the war he took up several more posts including Aide de Camp to HM the Queen.
