In this book, Ahmed Zeki Bey (Pasha), who was the head of the translating department at the President of the council of ministers, has published in Arabic an account of his recent travels in Europe, which is very interesting from both scientific and literary points of views. In an elegant and clear style, the author gives his impressions of his journey when he proceeded to London to represent the Egyptian government at the IXth Congress of orientalists held in that city.The work abounds with ethnographical and literary notes and gives a very correct idea of the state of civilisation in several countries of Europe, of their industrial and commercial progressand of the manners and costoms of their inhabitants. Specially worthy of attention aare the author's remarks respecting the Beauties of Paris, the grandeur of London, his visit to the South Wales coal mines and the description of the journey through Spain and Portugal.
