Jacob Spon was a 17th-century French archaeologist and historian who had a special interest in antiquarian studies. Spon traveled throughout Europe stopping in Greece, Constantinople, the Levant, as well as Switzerland. He found impressive treasures, coins, and handwritten manuscripts which inspired his famed book – 'The History of the Republic of Geneva'.
This book features impressive folding views of Geneva as well as engravings of coins and medallions. And while the illustrations are valuable, the importance of this book comes from that this book was the first published history of the city of Geneva.
