The 16 survivors of the crash were forced to take shelter in the wreckage of the aircraft, and for sustenance had to ea the bodies of the dead. The original rescue mission was abandoned after eight days, and so two of the survivors eventually made a ten-day journey over 32 miles of mountainous terrain to fetch help. This account by Piers Paul Read has been widely praised as being a "classic in the literature of survival". *** The Adventure Library was a series of 30 books sold by subscription between 1994 and 2003. The series was the brainchild of Edward Livermore Burlingame, an American publishing executive, who put up his own money to kickstart the company. He had been looking for something new to accomplish, and thought that the classic works of exploration were being overlooked by the reading public, because there were no new editions. This is book 9 in the series.. First Edition Thus. Hard Cover. Near Fine.
