About This Item
London, [1917]: Hodder & Stoughton. First Edition. Cloth. Very Good +/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Original blue cloth with blind-stamped blocking to front boards. Illustrated endpapers. Former owner's name, address with date (28/1/18) on verso of f.f.e.p. A near fine, tight, unfaded copy, unusually nice given the poor quality of war-time publishing materials. First and only edition of this novel, the sole work of fiction by Eayrs (President of Macmillan of Canada 1921-1939), and the true first novel of Costain, who returned to the historical romance genre three decades later with considerable success, and is still remembered as one of the most popular and prolific mid-20th Century purveyors of same. A rare book.
