About This Item
New York, NY: Alfred A. Knopf, 1953 Alfred A. Knopf, New York. 1953. Hardcover. Stated Fourth Printing February 1953. Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: Very Good; suntanned spine; lightly bumped lower tips; light shelfwear to head, tail, and tips. Red cloth boards and spine with bright blue lettering on the spine and front board. Clean internals; internal hinges are sound and not cracked. Tinted textblock top.342 pp + 9 pp index 8vo. This book is a thoughtful study of the position of racial, religious, and national minorities in the US, the discrimination they suffer, and the hatred and prejudices that divide them. The minorities are Catholics, Jews, Negroes, Mexicans, and the Chinese which are all victims of blind prejudice, antipathy, and hatred. The authors find that racial prejudice is an acquired trait, learned in childhood with a good dose of racial superiority tossed in. They find no true solution but stress that minorities should work and fight discrimination and segregation to obtain their rights. A clean very presentable copy.
