About This Item

New York and London: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1937 First edition (so stated and with the correct "B-M" code). vi, [2], 115pp. plus 35 photographic halftone plates. Title page printed in ochre and black. Publisher's gilt-stamped green cloth. A fine copy with very good pictorial dust jacket (jacket chipped at foot of spine and lower corners, less so to rear lower edge). One of the scarcest of Grey's fishing titles, especially in this condition. This title is notorious for faded covers, lacking the dust jacket, etc. Grey arrived at Sydney Harbor in January of 1936 to begin an eight month expedition to fish the coastal waters of Australia. Grey's party first cast their lines in the Tasman Sea and slowly moved northeast around southern and eastern Australia. Marlin and numerous species of shark were the chief catch including a world record 1,036-pound tiger shark..

Reviews

On Apr 9 2020, a reader said:
This was the last fishing book published while Zane Grey was alive, and it certainly shows his love of Australia, and the belief the seas surrounding her coast was excellent for fishing. This book contains the usual descriptive quality for which ZG is known, and also gives the reader his opinion on various subjects;and you are left with little doubt where he stands on any of them. The photographs of the many sharks and other fish he caught while on this trip are also quite fascinating. A well put together travelogue of places and activities one must visit when in the land down under. Whether you are a fisherman or not, this book will satisfy you as it is Zane Grey at his best, describing what he loved to do. Elsewhere, it has been reported he fished an average of 300 days a year. This may not be his best book on fishing, but one I'm sure you will enjoy.
