About This Item

New York: American Aphrodite, 1951. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/good. Shelf wear to tips, corners, and edges of the book and more to the jacket which has several small chips and tears along the top edge of the rear panel which also has a 2.5 in loss of surface, spine sunned; an inked date and a previous owner's emboss to the front free endpaper and the half-title page; a bit whiffy. Contributions include a story by the Irish novelist and communist Liam O'Flaherty, one by the English feminist writer Sylvia Townsend Warner. Another by the Welsh novelist and short story writer Rhys Davies as well as others. Edited by the notorious publisher of erotica and frequently imprisoned Samuel Roth who published pirated editions of Lady Chatterley's Lover and Ulysses. Roth was the plaintiff in the 1957 landmark case before the United States Supreme Court, which redefined the Constitutional test for determining what constitutes obscene material unprotected by the First Amendment. Every effort is made to ship all books and other items within 24 hours. Clean recycled packing material will be used when possible. The Book Shed has a been a member of the Vermont Antiquarian Bookseller's Association since 1997. An online bookseller with a bookshop sensibility!
