About This Item
Philadelphia: Henry F. Anners. Hardcover. Good. 16mo. 93 pages. A small book measuring 5 3/8 inches tall by just over 3 1/2 inches wide. Hardcover bound in original brown publisher's cloth with cover designs embossed in blind and with a central image of a reclining woman dreaming in gilt (on the front cover and in blind on the rear cover). The binding is worn and soiled and has some chipping to the cloth on the front cover near the fore edge. Front cover has been damped, and this is more evident on the front inner pastedown. Spine ends a little chipped. A sound copy with secure inner hinges. The front pastedown also has a piece of an early newspaper clipping pasted to the top edge. Frontis piece illustration of a woman dreaming on a couch with several people or babies or angels in a window above her. The text block is sound, and the text is foxed. No date. Worldcat locates 3 copies and suggests a date between 1839 and 1859. The front matter of the book notes that the "Dictionary of Dreams" at the rear is based on that of Andrew Bell. Scarce.
