About This Item

Random House, 1974. First Edition with requisite Random House number line (9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 ) for being a First printing. Lacks First Edition under number line so later printing. Very good book with author's name embossed on front. Red boards, black end papers and with black lettering to spine showing some edge wear. Good unclipped ($8.95) jacket shows shelf wear consistent with age of book and several chips to edge(s) and one closed tear on jacket back. Prior owner "ghost" on front flap and ink on half title page.

An American Marxist, feminist political activist and philosopher her involvement in the Communist Party USA led to her being fired in 1969 as an assistant professor at UCLA. The courts ruled that was illegal so she was fired by the Board of Regents for using inflammatory language. In 1970 guns found belonging to Davis were used in an armed takeover of a courtroom in Marin County, CA. Four people were killed and Davis was prosecuted and jailed for over a year before being acquitted of all charges in 1972. During the 1980's, Davis ran twice as the Communist Party's candidate for vice president. In 2020, she was named on Time's list of the 100 most influential people in the world. 8.5x5.75.
