FROM JOHN EVELYN'S LIBRARY WITH ENGRAVED ARMORIAL BOOKPLATE OF SIR FRED. EVELYN, and THE LATER BOOKPLATE FROM CHRISTIE'S SALE OF THE EVELYN LIBRARY. The ink name and date February 1646 of Thos. Jervoise at head of the portrait confirms this is the same copy, the Evelyn Sale, Part 3, No. 1407. 4to, approximately 290 x 180 mm, 11½ x 7 inches, woodcut frontispiece arms of Thomas Fairfax, folding engraved equestrian portrait of Fairfax by William Marshall after Edward Bowers, large folding engraved plate of the Battle of Naseby by Robert Streater, folding letter-press table, pages: [6], 1-8, [10], 9-335 followed by 4 pages of Contents, 10 unnumbered pages bound out of order between pages 8 & 9 (The State of the Kingdom, Errata, An Apologie and To all True English-Men), all pages present, nothing missing, title page is A2, same as ESTC, bound in 19th century half calf over patterned boards, gilt lettered label to spine, 2 bookplates to first pastedown. Binding rubbed and scuffed, boards darkened in places, slight edge wear to boards, corners slightly worn at tips, title page has a faint name in top margin, all folding plates have repairs to folds on blank sides, no loss to images, the repair to the large folding plate is slightly misaligned and the blank side has a little staining and browning, professional repair to long closed tear to the portrait, no loss to image, horizontal repair to folding table, pale staining to top of folding table, top margin of frontispiece slightly soiled, small hole to B4 affecting 1 letter recto and verso, easily legible,1 outer margin has some old ink stains, not affecting text, occasional brown spot, text mostly clean and bright, a very good copy.
