The first edition of this uncommon work. A detailed exploration of the history, revenue, and character of Anglo-Saxon churches. Many religious establishments in England can trace their history back to the Anglo-Saxon era. A boom in church building and the spread of Christianity in the country began in 597, when Pope Gregory I sent Augustine to England to convert the population. By Henry Soames, a noted clergyman and ecclesiastical historian. Sixteen pages of adverts to the rear. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Spine is a little faded. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Only a few light marks to the boards and spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some scattered spots, mostly to the first and last few pages. Very Good
