A thorough essay on Anglo-Saxon poetry by Gavin Bone. The first edition of this work, inscribed by Getrude Bone to half title page "To Oswald B Powell with best wishes for 1944 from Muirhead and Gertrude Bone."Gavin Bone, son to Gertrude and Muirhead Bone, wrote this short essay to accompany his translations of Anglo-Saxon poems. Unfortunately, he died before he could finish his work, and this volume includes only the first paragraph as its introduction, to what would have been a longer work planned as part of the main fabric of English literature. Nonetheless it remains a thorough and interesting insight. Containing 'The Battle of Maldon,' 'Judith,' 'The Fates and Gifts of Men,' 'Gnomic Verses,' and many more.
