New York: Greenwood Press, 1968. NOT a library discard. Appears unread. Near Fine. Condition would be Fine but for one tiny ding (i.e. indentation) to the rear copy. Pages are NOT affected. Bright, clean, square and tight. NO owner's name or bookplate. NO remainder mark. Fresh and crisp -- apparently never read. 1968 reprint of the 1951 U.S. Government Printing Office original. This is the first HARDCOVER edition (the 1951 edition having been issued in blue card covers). Identified here are 5,500 books and periodical articles on Antarctic exploration, maps and charts, botany, zoology, ornithology, minerals, fossils, climate, glaciers, etc. There is a large section on Antarctic exploration with details on each expedition including a brief summary of its accomplishments, dates, leader, nationality, and ship name; followed by a listing of books and magazine articles about each expedition. Three huge fold-out maps are tipped-in at the end, as called for. Bound in the original dark blue (almost black) cloth, stamped in shiny gold. Oversize Hardcover. 9" wide by 12.25" tall by 2.25" thick. This large book will require extra postage for Priority and International shipments, but only the standard charge for media mail.. First Hardcover Edition. Oversize Hardcover. Near Fine condition/No jacket, as issued. vi, 147pp. + 3 huge fold-out maps.
