Written in 1987, this book was the author's attempt to project the future economy of the world, with the United States in the throes of rioting and terrorism, Europe under the control of a neofascist leader, and the far east isolated and financially wrecked, unable to sell its products. 911 had not happened, so the consequences of that event may have skewed the projections, however Robert Heinlein in 1964 had projected something similar with his books of the collapse of America into a religious oligarchy, and corporate states controlling regions of the world.
