About This Item
Hull, England, 1818-28. Hardcover. Good. Unpaginated ledger. 18 cm. Leather binding with leather fastener. Blank impressing. Much rubbing to leather. Tears in flap ends. Marbled endpapers. A front leaf detached. All writing in pencil, mostly legible. Accompanied by business card reading "Clay, Broker, Appraiser &c. No. 5 Bowlalley Lane, Hull. Carpeting, Feathers, Beds, Blankets, &c. The utmost Value given for old Furniture in Exchange." Stains to card.
The book lists inventories for various names with the dates of the appraisal, goods valued. Gives an idea what folks owned in this time period eg. "Front Garret: 1 bedstead, small mattress, 3 chairs." Records at least one bar and brew house but appears to be mainly residences, occasional shop.
