Red cloth with white & illustrated dust jackets. Vol. 1 has 422 pp., and 359 illustrations. Vol. 2 has 396 pp. and 352 illustrations. Vol. 3 has 396 pp. and 226 illustrations. No slipcase. Remains a nice, bright and sharp set; appears to lightly handled and read. Approximately 24lbs for shipping. A monumental study. Volume 1 focuses on New England, New York and The Mid-Atlantic regions. Volume 2 examines the South and the Near Midwest. Volume 3 looks at the Far Midwest, Rocky Mountain West, Southwest and the Pacific. Each volume presents essays on the different states within the defined areas, followed by extensive notes to the essays; followed by Acknowledgments as they pertain to each essay and state; followed by an extensive bibliography to each essay and state; finally followed by an exhaustive index to the volume. The works of more than 800 artists are represented in these three volumes, making it an outstanding visual and informational reference work.
