A book detailing the history of cars in art and the history of art in the advertising and marketing of automobiles from the early years of the 20th century to Pop Art and Photorealism at the start of the 21st. First U.S. Edition (as stated). About 8 3/4 x 11 1/4 inches, 144 pages including index and author's note. Bound in blue cloth boards with gold lettering on spine and end pages decorated with 1904 car racing ad. White dustjacket shows poster by Rene Vincent for "new" Chenard et Walker and back panel features ll/1/1924 front cover of Vogue showing car and model, painted by George Lepape with dress and Voisin color scheme by Sophia Delaunay. Numerous b &w and full color reproductions of both fine art and advertising of cars and racing. Boards show light bumping at corners and touch of fading at edges, o/w boards and text are complete, clean and unmarked, except for pair of small remainder marks on bottom edge of text Binding tight and square. Not ex-library. White dustjacket shows minor soiling and surface wear, with bit of age-tanning on edges and tiny tear at lower end of spine. Not price-clipped. Whether the interest is in the art or the history, in reading or study, this is a collectable copy of a book that has both.
