"I had the great honour to command the 3rd Division in the early days of World War II. During those days the Division gained for itself a very fine reputation; it never failed to achieve what was required from it; it always stood firm as a rock in battle. This reputation was maintained in the campaign in North-West Europe from the assault on the beaches of Normandy until the capture of the City of Bremen; right up to the end of the war."
