About This Item

The Astonishing Adventure of Jane Smith – Patricia Wentworth (1st US Edition 1923 Hardcover) Debut Mystery Novel Crime Fiction Adventure Thriller Golden Age Suspense Heroine

The first mystery novel written by Patricia Wentworth. Published 1923 by Small, Maynard & Company Publishers (Boston). First American Edition. 313 pages. No dust jacket. Mustard/Yellow hardcover shows heavy wear to include heavy scuffs and spots/stains to both boards, soiling, substantial spine lean, sunfade and tanning (particularly the spine), bumped corners and edges, torn spine head and tail, and the boards are bowed. The book has numerous cracks (such as pages 8, 58, 122, 170) and hard creases throughout. The publisher's top stain is faded, the textblock and pages are tanning, and the edges have foxing and stains. Pastedowns and endpapers have discoloration and tanning from the publisher's glue, and the rear pastedown shows a fluid stain outline that impacts the last three pages. The page after the copyright page is torn over 2-inches. There are notations, pencil markings, smudges, and scuffs throughout the text (most notably at front endpaper, opposite half title page, 60-61, 164-165). Overall, this book is in Acceptable/Fair condition.
