London: B. Bragg, 1707. First edition. leather_bound. Modern full brown calf. Fine. 544 pages. 20 x 13 cm. The author, an English bookseller founded The Athenian Society in 1691. He also wrote the first periodical designed specially for women, "The Ladies' Mercury." Some of his tidbits here include: "The loving shrew, or the kindest women are the most cruel." "The virgin-paradox, or a young lady may love and hate the same person at the same time."...and..."a paradox proving there's no pleasure in copulation." Half title, lacking ads, renewed endpapers, interior contents generally clean. Raised bands, spine panels drecorated in gilt motifs, black leather spine label lettered gilt.
