London: Richard Bentley, 1843. Leather. Near Fine. 8.5" by 5". None. A second edition two volume set of Haliburton's satricial novel concerning mid-19th century British society. The second edition of this work, rebound in a half calf binding. A satirical novel following an American diplomat, Sam Slick, as he travels to England, a humorous take on British society. Sam Slick also appeared in 'The Clockmaker'. Thomas Chandler Haliburton (1796-1865) was a Nova Scotian politician, judge, and author. He was the first international best-selling author of fiction from what is now Canada. In 1856, he immigrated to England, where he served as a Conservative M.P. Rebound in a half calf binding. Externally in excellent condition, with just a little fading to the spines and upper extremities. Colour is otherwise good. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for the odd spot, more so to the first and last few pages. Near Fine
