About This Item
New York: Brentano's, 1929. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Green cloth over boards, title and decorations stamped in gilt onto uper board and spine, top edge stained yellow, 8vo (8 inches tall), pp. 312, frontis, B&W plates. Assume first edition with "This book, copyright 1929 by Brentano's..." on copyright page with no subsequent printings noted (Ahearn, p. 802). Volume with fade spots to cloth matching chips in dust jacket, partial fade to top edge stain and ghostly offset to upper board of Audbon's profile from DJ front panel, one single spot of soil at top of ffep. DJ with large chips to front panel, edge wear and soil to spine and rear panel. Inscribed and signed "To my friend tried & true / Warren Baldwin / from the King of Ireland / Desmond FitzGerald / Oct 26 1929" on ffep. Desmond FitzGerald was the 28th Knight of Glin, an hereditary title in County Limerick, Ireland. The title and line of descent ended with the death of his son, the last Black Knight, in 2011.
