About This Item
83 Gower Street, 11 June 1844[or 1842]. 2 pp. 10 x 8 inches, in good condition. Edgar George Papworth (18091866), sculptor. His Original Sculptural Designs were published as a volume of engravings in 1840. Papworth's sculpture is characterized by its careful carving and marks a transition from neoclassical idealism to Victorian realism. The former is evident in his Wellington monument design, which was strongly influenced by Antonio Canova.
