An illustrated first edition, first impression of this 'lost race' novel, based on the authors travels in Mexico. The first edition, first impression of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with pictorial gilt to the front board and spine. Bookplate of 'The Oxford Club, Lynn' to the front paste down. Thomas Allibone Janvier (1849-1913) was an American writer and historian. This adventure story, based on the author's travels in Mexico, is a 'lost race' or 'lost civilisation' novel. The protagonist, an archaeologist, discovers Aztecs living in a remote area of America. Illustrated throughout by Frederic Remington (1861-1909). In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, though darkened to the spine with small marks to the spine and rear board. Light shelf wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
