Here are poems of clarity and light in the tradition of the eighth-century Chinese hermit-poet Cold Mountain. From the elegiac to the comic, the fragmentary to the uncommonly lyrical, Joseph Stroud offers no easy solutions, no platitudes, yet his singular ear provides for a clarity of language through which his poetry may be framed and felt.
