The first edition of H Rider Haggard's illustrated ovel concerned with the clairvoyant heroine Benita. The first edition of this work, with frontispiece, sixteen illustrations by Gordon Browne, title page as well as contents and illustration lists in red and black. With eight pages of 'New Fiction' advertisements followed by eight leaves of publishers catalogue, both dated 7.06, as called for. Collated, complete.Adventure novel set in Africa and following Benita and her assistance in a hunt for a lost Portuguese treasure buried in the Transvaal. H Rider Haggard was a famous English writer of adventure fiction, mainly known for the use of exotic settings and as a pioneer of the lost world literary genre. In the original publisher's full cloth binding with gilt lettering to spine and front board. Externally smart with light bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities, back strip lightly faded, boards only lightly marked. Gentle cocking forward of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good
