About This Item

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons The Mermaid Series. Although not dated, this series was jointly published by Charles Scribner's sons in New York and T. Fisher Unwin in London from the early 1890s through the early 1900s. The Marlowe volume contains a frontis illustration. The collection was edited by Havelock Ellis and includes a Marlowe biography by Ellis as well, with an Introduction by J.A. Symonds. The plays include Tambulaine the Great (in two parts), The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, The Jew of Malta, and Edward the Second. An Appendix includes relevant items, such as a short biography of Edward Alleyn, who performed in many of Marlowe's plays. Book is in good condition and is bound in gray paper covered boards with pastedown labels on front panel and spine. Spine label darkened. Boards rubbed at extremities and spine seams rubbed. Interior complete and unmarked. Book measures 4 1/4 by 7 inches and includes 430 pages. See photo.. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Bound Plays.
